This is a compendium of the work I’ve been finishing up for the semester.

My primary mission has been to bring more impact to my still image work via narrative, character and more specific imagery.  One of the big shifts for me has been the use of directed photography, whereby I’ve used models in specific poses and setups to use as backdrops for incorporating CG characters. They did not all come out as well as I'd hoped but I'm glad to have gone through the process. (some of these are an attempt to explore the notion of “going darker” which is something I was asked to do by a number of people at the last residency.  I feel particularly bad about decapitating an 8 yr old boy for the sake of art)

Here are some samples of the results

DIRECTED PHOTOGRAPHY, CHARACTERS  AND NARRATIVE

MISCELLANY

I’ve been hacking at a trompe loeil self portrait recently, which is inspired by this first image of an artist (Jean-Marie Faverjon) who painted himself coming out of a picture frame.  Using the same idea I came up with a scenario involving a few layers but am still struggling with some of the technical aspects.

This is an attempt at trying to mix the concepts of landscape and narrative

A super basic concept  piece trying to incorporate the most boiled down versions of organic and mechanical forms

Another robot hovering over a landscape… irresistible to me once I had the nice foggy night photo of the background.

Similar to the above, a nice night shot of the same spot of land that I felt needed a space ship.

This image was stuck in my head for over a month after my mom passed away, (I had a great deal of fear about being along for the process of burying her ashes at the cemetery, as it couldn’t be done right away, and I knew all my relatives would be away for this even, giving me a very fearful sense of loneliness that I needed to resolve… which I think I’ve done simply by making the picture that was in my head)

Stock photo manipulations

I kind of like what happens to this bunny when you stick a set of arms on him at shoulder height, as suddenly he seems to be saying, “Bring it on! Who wants a piece of this?”
